We have been organising exciting self-drive safaris in Oman since 2006. This country offers something which is totally different from all the other countries we go to. With our Oman safaris we can combine the excitement and freedom of self drive with the thrill of heading into some awesome sand dunes, rough camping in some spectacular mountain ranges and pitching up all along the coast.
We believe that a journey into the remoter regions is a must, as they are absolutely spectacular and the scenery is out of this world. However, we also know that it is very important to be safe and here, more than anywhere. You will need a capable guide when venturing into the tremendous sand dunes as only the mad would travel into the desert alone! We can offer guides in both the stunning Empty Quarter as well as the more popular Wahiba Sands in the north of Oman.
In the Empty Quarter, our Safari Drive guide is a Bedouin and he loves this area with the pride of someone who has spent his life here. He knows every dune and, more importantly, every oasis. Heading off into the sands with him is simple and intrepid traveling at its best. There are no facilities of any kind – just lots of sand, the odd passing Bedu with his caravan of camels, you and your 4WD, ear-ringing tranquillity and breathtaking scenery.
Depending on how much time you have at your disposal you can venture from the north and the spectacular Wahiba Sands – a sea of 200 m high undulating dunes all the way down south where you will discover the tropical feel of Salalah and the wonderful vastness of The Empty Quarter.
Oman is a stunning country. To get a flavour for what you can expect watch this short film from a previous clients trip.
Here is a list of just some of our favourite places to visit in Oman. They are all places that we would recommend for a self drive safari. This is not a comprehensive list and if there are other places you are keen to visit and would like further information please let us know and we’ll be happy to help.
