Whilst this route essentially follows our Classic Botswana route we have also included a fly in to the Okavango Delta where you will stay at a hidden jewel on the Xudum River in the southwest of the Okavango Delta. Luxury Botswana ITINERARY
DAY 1 & 2 Waterberry Lodge, Zambezi Rivier
Upon arrival in Livingstone you will be met by staff from Waterberry, who will transfer you to the lodge. Waterberry Lodge is located on the banks of the Zambezi River, amongst Mopane woodland, Waterberry Lodge is only 45 minutes from Livingstone town and Victoria Falls.
With only seven chalets, some overlooking the river and others overlooking the Dam, each is secluded and has en-suite facilities. They serve delicious meals in the main lodge on the balcony, overlooking the river and the chef is very good, creating delicious salads and fresh food. Your hosts will look after you brilliantly and there is such a homely feeling around the lodge that you will feel very welcome. When walking around the lodge, you need to be very careful of hippo which will come through camp on a regular basis. In particular, the birds at Waterberry are stunning and many species can be spotted in the grounds of the lodge.
Full board basis including accommodation, meals, house wine and local drinks and one of the following activities per day: tour of Victoria Falls (excluding park fees), sunset cruise, daytime cruise, fishing, island picnics, guided village walk, guided tour of the town and local markets.
DAY 3 & 4 Chobe Game Lodge, Chobe National Park
Today, you head to Chobe Game Lodge which is situated west of Kasane and overlooking the Chobe River and the Caprivi floodplains. Chobe Game Lodge is the only permanent game lodge located within the Chobe National Park. Once here, you can explore the Chobe River and abundant wildlife and bird species. The rooms are river-facing with en-suite bathrooms as well as private terraces.
DAY 5 & 6: Belmont Savute Elephant Lodge
As the name suggests, Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is known for the herds of elephants that can be spotted roaming its plains. But other large animals also gather here.
Twelve recently thatched luxurious tents each have private timber decks, four poster beds, spacious en suite bathroom and dressing room area. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for viewing wildlife, or for enjoying a private dinner in complete privacy.
Savute is known for its exciting game viewing and excellent bird life. During the middle of the day, cool off by the 20 metre swimming pool. A state of the art telescope is available at the main lodge for all to enjoy the African night sky. There is a private outdoor leisure area with internet access and satellite TV located discreetly away from the main lounge and dining areas.
DAY 7 & 8 Sable Alley, Khwai
Sable Alley has had a complete rebuild on the site of an old camp and sits on the side of a lagoon next to the Khwai River. Huge numbers of animals use the lagoon on a daily basis to drink meaning the wildlife literally comes to you. Whilst based here you can head into both Moremi which is a stone's throw away or the vast Khwai Private Reserve. This private reserve offers a huge array of habits including ravine woodlands, open floodplains and mopane woodland, the varied landscapes brings in a great range of wildlife that include wild dog, rhino and sable.
The meru style tents are set on private decks with en suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and private viewing decks.
DAY 9 & 10 Okuti
This delightful camp lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through the Xakanaxa Lagoon, within the world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Offering a welcome touch of comfort, Okuti has recently been rebuilt amidst the wilderness of one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions. Experience game drives in the Moremi Game Reserve in specially designed safari vehicles, allowing unhindered views for game viewing and photography. Moremi is a park rich in wildlife and game viewing is consistent year round so it is ideal for the first time visitor to Botswana. In addition to game drives you can explore the delta waterways by motorboat – from open lagoons to winding channels it is a birder’s paradise, especially for herons and storks in the breeding season. Okuti caters for a maximum of 18 guests, accommodation in insect-proofed units each with ensuite bathroom, hot and cold running water and flush toilets.
DAY 11 Royal Tree Lodge, Maun
This very well run lodge is set on a private 300 hectare game farm on the outskirts of Maun and is an ideal place to stay whilst in this town. Zebra, kudu, the unusual black springbok and ostrich roam freely and there is an abundance of birdlife for the avid birdwatcher. You stay in well-built and furnished en-suite tents with a bath tub for colder days and an outside shower, twin basins and a flush loo. There is a swimming pool set into a deck near the main building where a bar, sitting room and dining room are situated. You can walk freely in this area as there are no predators.
DAY 12, 13, 14 Kanana Camp, Okavango Delta
A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is located in the southwest of the Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta.
Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents and one family tent, each with en-suite bathrooms with shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced, affording privacy whilst remaining within comfortable distance from the main camp area.
The annual floods transform parts of this concession into a true water paradise, offering guests the best of both worlds. At certain times of the year guests may actually enjoy the breathtaking spectacle of the water visibly rising around the camp’s raised teak decks. Experience magnificent game sightings during drives as well as the unique experience of exploring the delta’s beautiful waterways by boat. There is also a Sleep Out Deck that offers guests the opportunity to spend the night under the splendid African night sky.
Situated in the Kanana Concession, the focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta. Activities include morning and late afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. Alternatively you may explore the crystal clear waterways by Mokoro or motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Birding is spectacular, and Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity, a Kanana highlight which converts all visitors to avid 'twitchers'. Guided bush walks are highly recommended as is fishing for tilapia, African pike and sharptooth catfish.
DAY 15 Depart Botswana
Today you will fly back to Maun airport in good time to connect onto your international flight home.
