The buzz around the remake of The Mummy, to be released in 2017, is starting to grow and with the excitement of the Mad Max film not quite settled, we thought it was time to create a safari itin-erary with a Hollywood twist. The route travels through Etosha National Park, the dunes at Sos-susvlei and the mysterious Skeleton Coast. With much of the awe-inspiring landscape in the films being shot in Namibia, in particular the Namib Desert and Swakopmund, we’ve made sure the itin-erary includes plenty of time in those areas to really feel as though you’ve stepped onto a movie set.

Namibia Adventure ITINERARY

  • DAY 1 River Crossing, Windhoek

Upon your arrival in Johannesburg at 09h00 you remain in transit for the SA70 to Windhoek departing at 11h30. On arrival in Windhoek at 12h25 you will be met by a representative of Safari Drive Namibia and taken to River Crossing where you can drop your bags and freshen up. You will then be taken to our base for your trip briefing and vehicle handover. You will be briefed on the vehicle, equipment, driving conditions, route and safety issues. Please expect this briefing to take at least two hours. You will be asked to sign the safety affirmation form to confirm that you have read and understood all the contents of the Safari Drive Handbook. River Crossing situated 15 minutes away from the centre of Windhoek at the top of a hill, River Crossing offers superb views of mountains in one direction and Windhoek in the other. The area surrounding the lodge is home to a variety of plains game including zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and eland. The restaurant area is great to relax in, with views that will make any sundowner remarkable. Here you can enjoy scenic drives, see the grounds on foot or for the experienced rider, participate in morning or afternoon horse rides. There is also a wellness centre at the lodge with a spa that offers a range of massages. Basis: Bed and breakfast.
  • DAY 2 Okonjima Campsite, Omboroko

This morning after breakfast you will have a driver safety course with our manager in Namibia, Mike Whitelock. After which you will be shown where to stock up on food supplies for your camping nights before embarking on your trip. You will then set off to the Okonjima Reserve, home to the AfriCat Foundation.
  • DAY 3 Onguma Leadwood Campsite, Etosha National Park

Today you drive north to the Onguma Reserve on the edge of Etosha National Park. You will stay in one of Onguma's campsites, either Leadwood campsite or Tamboti. Either is great and provides you with your own site, with private ablution block. As a camper you are also able to use the facilities of the lodge for meals.
  • DAY 4 Okaukuejo Rest Camp, Etosha National Park and Etosha Pan

Today you drive to Okaukuejo Rest Camp which is centrally located by the Anderson Gate in Etosha National Park. The main attraction of this camp is that it overlooks a permanent waterhole, which is floodlit at night. Here a wide diversity of wildlife congregates and interacts. The spectacle starts at dawn, with animals coming in large numbers to quench their thirst. The excitement continues throughout the day and deep into the night. In the early evenings, it is not uncommon to have black rhinoceros, elephant and lion, all drinking at the same time. The Waterhole Chalets are situated close to the waterhole. These are comfortable double rooms with en suite bathroom, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The views over the waterhole cannot be better. Basis: Bed and breakfast in a Waterhole Chalet.
  • DAY 5 Olifantsrus Campsite, Etosha National Park

Today you will drive to Olifantsrus Campsite which is located in Western Etosha. This is a part of Etosha not often seen. Only guests of Dolomite and Olifantsrus Campsite are allowed to enter this side of the park.
  • DAY 6 & 7 Etendeka Mountain Camp, Damaraland

This morning you will exit Etosha through the 'back gate' (Galton Gate) & take the scenic drive to Etendeka Mountain Camp which is set in the north of Damaraland. You will be expected there at approximately 15h00. Although it is a remote bush camp, rare sightings of giraffe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, springbok and even desert elephant and black rhino can add an exciting bonus to your stay at certain times of year.
  • DAY 8 Mowani Campsite, Damaraland

Today you will start to head south into the heart of Damaraland where you will be staying at the campsite that belongs to Mowani. This is a scenic area, famous for the rock art.
  • DAY 9 Spitzkoppe Campsite, Damaraland

Today you will drive to Spitzkoppe, which we think is one of the most beautiful areas in Namibia, consisting of an imposing granite rock formation set in the plains. Here you can walk in the area and climb up to Bushman’s Paradise, a small basin tucked between the domes of rock, where you can view the rock paintings done by Bushman of the past and gaze at the amazing view.
  • DAY 10 & 11 Desert Breeze, Swakopmund

This morning you will be driving to the coastal town of Swakopmund. With palm-lined streets, seaside promenades and fine accommodation. This is also Namibia's activity centre, here you can do a range of activities from quad biking on sand dunes to scenic flights up the skeleton coast. It is also a good place to stock up on food and fuel.
  • DAY 12 Sosus Dune Lodge, Sossuslvei

Today you have quite a long drive as you continue south to Sossus Dune Lodge and the magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei - a real highlight of your trip.

The lodge is stunning, peaceful and is without doubt one of the most relaxing and tranquil lodges you will encounter on your journey. This unique guest lodge is run by the owner and so there is real attention to detail in every aspect of the running of the lodge. It is a great place to spend the last night of your trip.
  • DAY 15 Depart Windhoek

This morning you will head back to Windhoek airport in time for your flight home. You will hand back your vehicle and have your trip debrief at the airport, prior to boarding your flight.
