This itinerary is designed for those who have the time to really see the ins and outs of Namibia. On this trip you will spend 4 weeks driving through first southern and then northern Namibia taking in the Naukluft Desert, Fish River Canyon, Klein Aus Vista, Namib Rand, Soussusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland, Kaokoland, Etosha National Park and the Waterberg Plateau - you will be a Namibia expert after this!

Itinerary

Location 1

River Crossing Lodge, nr Windhoek

Day 1

On arriving in Windhoek, you will be transferred to River Crossing Lodge for your first night in Namibia. Later in the afternoon you will be introduced to your vehicle, briefed on its equipment, the driving conditions, your route and safety issues.

Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch Campsite, East Mariental

Day 2

Today, you’ll drive south to Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch and camp on their private 7,000-hectare reserve, home to springbok, gemsbok, giraffe, and eland.

Canyon Road House Campsite, Fish River Canyon

Days 3 & 4

Take the long drive towards the Fish River Canyon. Just north of the road to the Canyon is a small lodge called Canyon Roadhouse. The Roadhouse has fuel, a small shop, restaurant and bar, nearby is a small well appointed campsite with shaded camping areas. Two days to explore the magnificent Canyon and surrounding area.

Eagle's Nest, Klein Aus Vista

Day 5 & 6

Today you have a choice of two routes, the longer but truly beautiful route is south to the Orange River. You will then continue to a lovely property in Klein Aus Vista (one of our favourite regions) called the Eagle's Nest. From here you can visit the wild horses, do some trekking on the farm and visit Luderitz.

NamibRand Family Hideout Campsite

Days 7 & 8

This morning you drive to NamibRand Hideout and one of three sites on a farm in the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Surrounded by exceptional desert and natural beauty this is a fantastically private and peaceful campsite.

Sossusvlei Lodge, Sesriem

Day 9

Your journey takes you north today as you drive to Sesriem and Sossusvlei Lodge. Situated at the Entrance Gate to the Namib Naukluft Park it offers direct access to the towering red sand dunes, the famous pan of Sossusvlei, the scorched black trees of Dead Vlei and the remarkable depths of the Sesriem Canyon.

Villa Margherita, Swakopmund

Days 10 & 11

This morning you will be driving to the coastal town of Swakopmund where you will stay at the lovely Villa Margherita. With palm-lined streets and seaside promenades this is also Namibia's activity centre, where you can do a range of activities from quad biking on sand dunes to scenic flights up the Skeleton Coast.

Spitzkoppe Campsite, Spitzkoppe

Day 12

Today you will drive to Spitzkoppe, which we think is one of the most beautiful areas in Namibia, consisting of an imposing granite rock formation set in the plains. Here you can climb up to Bushman’s Paradise, a small basin tucked between the domes of rock, view the rock paintings done by Bushman of the past and gaze at the amazing view.

Malansrus Tented Camp, Damaraland

Days 13 & 14

Head north into the heart of Damaraland where you will stay at Malansrus Tented Camp under shady mopane trees and from where you can explore the main sites and highlights of the Twyfelfontein area.

Camp Aussicht, Kaokoland

Day 15

Make your way into Namibia's wild and remote area of Kaokoland. Stay overnight at the 'off the beaten track' Camp Aussicht just south of Opuwo. At this peaceful hilltop camp you can enjoy views over the Kaokoland wilderness.

Purros Community Campsite, Kaokoland

Days 16 & 17

After packing up camp this morning you will head further into Kaokoland to stay at Purros Community Campsite. This beautiful campsite is the perfect place to interact with Namibia's Himba people and perhaps catch sight of some desert adpated elephant.

Khowarib Lodge Campsite, Kaokoland

Day 18

Today you drive south through Kaokoland to Khowarib Lodge Campsite. Perched on a riverbank in the heart of the desert, this campsite delivers an unexpected and beautiful contrast of environments.

Etendeka Mountain Camp, Damaraland

Days 19 & 20

This morning you'll head to Etendeka Mountain Camp in the north of Damaraland. Although it is a remote bush camp, rare sightings of giraffe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, springbok and even desert elephant and black rhino can add an exciting bonus to your stay at certain times of year. Hoada Campsite, Etosha National Park

Day 21

Today you will drive to Hoada Campsite, which is located on the edge of Damaraland just beyond the Grootberg Pass. Each private campsite has its own ablution facilities all hidden within stunning granite rock formations.

Etosha Oberland Lodge, Etosha National Park

Day 22

An early start today will allow you to make the most of your stay at this very stylsh lodge and give you a chance to enjoy a guided walk to experience the bush on foot, tracking antelopes and birdlife and learning about the traditional medicinal use of indigenous plants.

Onguma Campsite, Etosha National Park

Day 23 & 24

Enjoy the day exploring Etosha National Park before reaching one of the Onguma Campsites - either Leadwood or Tamboti - both are great campsites and offer guided game drives in Etosha or on the Onguma Private Reserve.

Waterberg Plateau Campsite, Waterberg

Day 25 & 26

Driving south, for the next two nights you'll stay at the Waterberg Plateau Campsite situated in a sheltered high-lying valley. This area has exceptional flora and birdlife and is fantastic for trekking. Kudu and leopard seek cover in the forested slopes and the plains below offer regular sightings of rhino and cheetah.

Olive Grove, Windhoek

Day 27

Today you will return to Windhoek to spend your final night in Namibia at the lovely Olive Grove Guesthouse. Here you will have a trip debrief and you can then relax and enjoy reflecting on your adventure.

This morning you will be collected from your guesthouse and transferred to Windhoek airport for your flight home.
